The usual practice of writing combines the variability of the mediums and the persistence of the drawn shapes. Information (as meant by the computer engineer: discrete and not probabilistic) is approached with the idea of “transphenomenal translation” which removes any trace of phenomenality and empirical shape in order to retain nothing else than a translation invariant characterized as a mutual distinctivity of indiscernible elements. This invariant acts like a symmetry where the degree of distinctivity, which may be understood as a quantity of information, implies on the other hand a gauge of indetermination, with the same degree, corresponding to the indiscernibility of the elements. With this approach, I analyze the fiction stating that information processing is like symbols manipulation.
